COMMERCIAL VARIETIES

The Malting Breeding Program evaluates and promotes different genetic origins in order to meet the industry’s quality demands. Germoplasm origin will define the agronomic and malting performance. As a consequence, each variety’s attributes and the way they complement each other need to be taken into account with the aim of achieving the product’s final quality.

Varieties are selected contrasting their sanitary, agronomic and malting performances with the ones of local commercial varieties. The variety replacement that MOSA is suggesting nowadays will allow, in the short and mid-term, to fulfil industrial malting quality needs.

Malting quality European Varieties:

  • High Fine Extract
  • Low viscosity
  • Low turbidity
  • High Soluble nitrogen
  • Good FAN´s level
  • Low Betaglucans´s level

Malting quality local varieties:

  • Low-intermediate viscosity
  • Good Kolbach´s Index level
  • Good Soluble nitrogen level
  • Intermediate colour
